CARD STORY: A Place To Return To

Chapter One

(Courtyard)

Akira: Good afternoon, Faust. I didn't see you around in the afternoon, did you head out somewhere?

Faust: Oh, it's you. The Eastern wizards just wrapped up our training session.

Faust: Shino and Heath are both competitive, so it took some time before they were satisfied with their results.

Akira: The two of them do seem to be good rivals for each other.

Faust: (sighs) Ambition and wanting to better themselves isn't a bad thing, but I do wish they'd learn to compromise sometimes.

Akira: Ahaha. Thank you for the hard work, Faust.

Faust: Don’t mention it. I'll go take my rest now... huh?

Sheep: Mehh.

Akira: This little sheep’s one of Lennox's flock.

Faust: Are you all alone? Come here, what's the matter?

Akira: Could it have gotten lost?

Lennox: Sir Sage, Sir Faust.

Akira: Oh, it seems like he's come to pick it up. Good afternoon, Lennox.

Lennox: My apologies. I brought them out for a stroll, and one of them strayed from the group...

Faust: Take care not to let them get lost again. Here.

Sheep: Mehh.

Lennox: Thank you very much for your help.

Figaro: Leno, did you find the sheep? Oh my, the two of you found it?

Akira: So you were with Lennox, Figaro.

Figaro: Yes. We were talking about having a tea party with the rest of the Southern wizards after we were done with our stroll. Would the two of you like to join us?

Akira: Would that be alright? I'd be more than happy to.

Faust: I'll pass.

Figaro: That so? What a pity.

Faust: ...It's not that I'm against having tea with you guys. I'm a little tired today, so I'd just like to rest in my room.

Lennox: I'll bring some tea to your room later, Sir Faust. We happen to have some tea leaves that are calming when one is fatigued.

Faust: No need, the sentiment is enough. Well then, see you.

Lennox:

(Corridor)

Akira: Sorry, Faust. Are you awake?

Faust: What is it, Sage?

Akira: Here is some tea that helps with relaxing, and a few snacks. Lennox entrusted them to me.

Faust: That fellow... He's considerate about the strangest things. You were also entrusted a troublesome duty, weren’t you.

Faust: Sorry for making you bring these all the way here. If you don't mind, come in and have some.

Akira: Alright. Sorry for the intrusion.

(Faust’s room)

Faust: ...Fuu.

Akira: ...Somehow, the atmosphere around you has changed a little from when you first came to the Residence, Faust.

Faust: You're imagining things. I haven't changed at all.

Faust: I'm still a shut-in, I still hate humans, and I'm still against working for the sake of humans.

Chapter Two

(Faust’s room)

Akira: That... Taking into account what you've been through, it's only natural. I don't think there's a need for you to force yourself to change, either.

Akira: It just makes me happy that I can be invited into your room like this, and that I can now drink tea together with you.

Faust: ...It's not like I hate you.

Akira: Eh, really?

Faust: There’s no way I would lie to you, right? Though if you doubt me, I'll be happy to chase you out.

Akira: My bad. I'm happy, though. Somehow, it feels like when a distrustful stray cat approaches me...

Faust: Sorry about that then. For being a distrustful stray cat.

Akira: Ahaha. ...Thank you, Faust.

Faust: ...No worries.

(fade to black)

(Akira's room, morning)

Akira: ...Mm, huh? This is my room.

Akira: (That's right, last night Faust and I were engrossed in conversation deep into the night, and he walked me back.)

Akira: Did Faust cover me with this blanket last night? I should return it to him before I forget.

(Corridor)

Akira: Sorry for dropping by this early. Faust, are you in?

Akira: ...Seems like he's not. Since it's time for breakfast, he's probably gone to the dining hall.

Shino: Sage, what's the matter?

Akira: Shino, good morning. Did you happen to see Faust?

Shino: Nope, haven't seen him all morning. Speaking of which, he didn't come for breakfast either.

Akira: Is that so? I wonder where he could have gone.

Shino: No choice, I'll look for him too.

Akira: Thank you, Shino.

(Dining Hall)

Shino: He's not anywhere.

Akira: Where could Faust be...

Nero: If you're looking for Faust, he's gone back to his own home. Didn't you hear him say that, Shino?

Heathcliff: He said after training yesterday that he was going back to pick up some tools for use in our lessons.

Shino: ... That so?

Heathcliff: For goodness’ sake. This is because you don't listen to what other people say, Shino.

Akira: Oh, so that's the case. I'm glad he didn't disappear...

Figaro: If you're worried, why not go and see him?

Akira: Eh?

Figaro: You're looking for Faust, aren't you? If you have something for him to attend to, you can go meet him.

Akira: No, it's not anything urgent...

Figaro: Oh? But if you leave him be, he might shut himself away, and not come back.

Lennox: He wouldn't do such a...

Figaro: Oops, sorry. I'm joking. But if Sage and the others were to go meet him, he would surely appreciate it.

Shino: Well, shall we go then? We don't get to visit Faust's place much.

Akira: Eh!?

Heathcliff: If that's the case, then... I would like to go as well. I'm worried.

Nero: There are good ingredients to collect 'round that area. Right, shall we go?

Akira: (Everyone's suddenly raring to go, but is it really alright...?)

Chapter Three

(Valley of Storms)

Akira: It's been a long time since we came to Faust's home.

Nero: Hey, Teach. You in?

Heathcliff: ...There’s no response. Perhaps he’s gone out.

Shino: We'll find out if we destroy the barrier around his house.

Shino: Matzah Sodipas!

Faust: Oi, stop that. What are you trying to do to my house?

Nero: Oh, there he is.

Faust: Seriously... and here I was hoping I'd get some peace and quiet for a bit...

Akira: Sorry for turning up uninvited, Faust.

Faust: What is this, all of a sudden? I did say I'd be back, didn't I?

Nero: Mr Sage was worried, so we came to meet you.

Faust: You were?

Just like he’d said, Nero left to look for rare ingredients around the valley, while Shino and Heathcliff were casually playing with the cats using the dancing cattails.

Akira: (This place is as mysterious and peaceful as ever...)

Faust: So, what was it? Did you think I wouldn’t return to the Residence?

Akira: No, it was just that one thing led to another and we ended up coming here.

Akira: After all, even when we first started living together at the Residence and you left to visit the Eastern Country, you still came back in the end.

Faust: ...Well, because Leno was with me at the time.

Akira: I asked Lennox if he'd like to come along too, but...

Akira: He said he'd wait for you at the Residence, because he knows it's a place you will return to.

Faust: ...That so?

Akira: Thank you for returning to us, back then.

Akira: And thank you for the blanket yesterday as well. I couldn't return it to you earlier, so I'll return it when we're back in the Residence.

Faust: ...Alright.

Faust: ...This is late, but the same goes for me. I'm grateful that you saved my life the day you came to this world.

Faust: If you'd rejected the wizards that night, I would have lost my life. Thank you, Sage.

Akira: I’m happy to help!

Faust: To be honest, I came back here to do something else besides retrieving the lesson tools.

Faust: Salliuqnart Mullcredo.

Akira: Woah! Cute...! It's an antique cat charm. What is this for?

Faust: I bought this thinking it could be used in my cursework. I'm giving it to you.

Akira: Is that really alright? But if it has a curse sealed in it, then...

Faust: Nothing's been sealed in it yet, so there's nothing to worry about. Though if you would so desire, I can cast a special curse on it just for you.

Akira: N-No, that's alright.

Akira: Thank you very much, Faust. I'll treasure it.

Faust: ...Well, think of it as a memento of when a distrustful stray cat took to you.

Faust: Let's work together from now too.

CARD EPISODE: Faust’s Favourite

(Faust’s room)

Akira: Faust, are there any shops selling cat-related goods that you like?

Faust: ...What's this, all of a sudden?

Akira: Um, I don't really see cat-themed goods in this world. So I thought you'd probably know of a good shop or two.

Faust: ...

Faust: ...If you're trying to get a present out of me, I suggest you look for someone else.

Akira: Eh!? No, that's not it! I'm sorry if it came across that way...

Faust: No, I just wanted to try saying that. I already know you're a human who doesn't want for much.

Akira: There's no such thing... But I was thinking of giving you a present, since I'm always in your care.

Faust: Just the sentiment is enough. ...Here, there are things like this too.

Akira: Woah, what a pretty teacup. Faust, you have a lot of humble but classy items....

Faust: Take a look inside.

Akira: ...There are pawprints drawn on the bottom of the cup!

Faust: If you don't mind things like this, there should be a number of shops selling them.

Akira: Please tell me about them! Also, out of all of them, what would your top recommendation be?

Faust: Hmm, I...

Faust: No, I have no idea at all.
